SEA GARDEN INTEGRATES SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND SITE-SPECIFIC DESIGN TO SUPPORT MARINE REGENERATION AND ENHANCE THE ECOLOGICAL VALUE OF THE TARGET ECOSYSTEM

The artificial reefs developed by ugi are designed to incorporate the physical and ecological conditions of each ecosystem, while integrating appropriate technical criteria, regulatory requirements and scientific monitoring protocols.

A PIONEERING APPROACH TO REGENERATIVE DESIGN: Underwater Gardens creates and manages structures adapted to the marine environment, combining scientific, technological, and ecological solutions to protect, restore, and regenerate local ecosystems for long-term sustainability.

The reefhopper® design protocol, supported by an expert software developed by UGI, enables the creation of healthy reefs tailored to the environment, promoting the growth of marine fauna and flora in an environment conducive to natural regeneration, reinforced by human expertise.

AQUADEMY

CENTRE FOR EDUCATION AND KNOWLEDGE OF THE SEA

Participants will explore marine biology, chemistry, and history through hands-on activities, learning about the threats facing the ocean and how to mitigate them. Additionally, they will engage in sustainable practices by creating items from materials recovered from the sea.

MEDITADORIUM

CENTRE FOR INTERACTIVE EXHIBITS AND ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS

A centre for interactive exhibits and environmental awareness, showcasing aspects of the ocean such as marine physics, ocean geology, biodiversity and marine biology. It also features a 360º projection room offering immersive experiences enhanced by sensory effects such as wind, water and scents.

BIODIVERSITY CENTRE

COMMUNITY GARDEN AND DISSEMINATION

This area will include a community garden for the cultivation of native plants and two interactive exhibition halls dedicated to biodiversity. In addition, a participatory laboratory will allow visitors to observe, study and help tracking the site’s biodiversity, supporting ecosystem regeneration and conservation.

The Biolab facilities are dedicated to scientific research including the nurseries and mesocosms for the “Sea Garden”. The visitors of the Underwater Gardens will not only have access but will also actively participate in the regeneration of the sea beds.
